North Adelaide Golf Club

President's message

October and November heralded record-breaking club championships, ongoing course renovations and a few changes at the office.

More than 160 championship entries meant that some players were asked to stand aside from their Saturday play to enable all entrants to get a tee time. Thanks to those who took the break.

Matches were played in good spirit, and the finals produced first-class match play. Well done to the winners and those who got oh so close.

In mid-November, the greenkeepers closed the course and took a day to do some course renovations and widespread sanding and coring work. This is a common occurrence at most metro courses in Adelaide at this time of year and the results will be noticeable in a couple of weeks.

Last month, we advertised the role of Assistant Secretary/Manager to cover absences and ease the office workload. We are pleased to announce that Thomas Ryke was selected and has already started.

The Annual Championship Dinner was well attended and gave us a chance the acknowledge the continuing work of some of our key volunteers, notably Andrew Carmody, Dan Cole, and Di Cocks.

The annual President’s Award for outstanding contribution to golf and the club went to the Jane Crafter Challenge, an event that began at North Adelaide and has quickly evolved into a major date on the South Australian golfing calendar. Thank you to the nine members of the group that oversaw a full field, a waiting list and golfers from 22 clubs compete last month. Full details of the event's history and a lovely video of some of the team on a golf trip can be viewed on our Facebook page.

It was a joy to see a rising junior golfer and previous NAGC Women's Champion, Alice Cho, win the Royal Adelaide Golf Club Women's Championship. The many North Adelaide players who mentored Alice in her early days must feel very proud.

Work on the course redevelopment continues at several levels (design, construction, administration, transition of management, timing etc.) and we expect more details to emerge soon. The club’s representatives meet regularly with the project management team and our focus on protecting the club’s future is resolute.
