North Adelaide Golf Club

Public Course Pennants - Round 6

The last throw of the dice in the minor round with North Adelaide hosting North Haven in Divisions 2 & 3, while Division 1 went to Sandy Creek to meet the ladder leader in one of the hardest assignments in the competition.

Division 1

A magnificent effort by our Div 1 team playing Sandy Creek away, and holding them to a draw!

In each of the four groups, the results showed one win and one loss… with Barry Smith (4&2), Abbasi Mchwala (3&2), Se Young Jung (a superb 7&5!) and Chantha Kong (2up) triumphant.

The result has allowed our team to sneak into next week’s Preliminary Final against Mawson Lakes, with the winner to meet Sandy Creek the following week.

Barry Smith was our best-placed contender in the Div 1 Player of the Year standings.

Division 2

North Adelaide’s dominance of Division 2 South resumed with a convincing 6.5 to 1.5 win over North Haven on the North Course.

The Korean Barbecue fired up early as Mi Park (4&2), Jeong-Ae Choi (2&1) and her partner Damwon Kim (4&3) swept the opening three matches. A squared match to Tom Ryke and a loss in the middle group gave the visitors some reprieve, until Kelly Kim (2&1), Luis Madriz (4&3) and Ian George (1up) put the matter beyond doubt.

With five wins from six matches, 15 points, 27 games and 79 holes won… the team is great shape for its meeting next Sunday with Playford Lakes who placed second in Division 2 North.

The winner of that match meets the winner of Sandy Creek and Regency Park in the Final the week after.

Congratulations to Luis Madriz who finished a close second in the Player of the Year race; the result decided by a single hole on a countback of holes won.

Division 3

A mixed bag of results to close out the minor round but a much-needed win recorded, 5-3.

After good wins to the opening pair of Brett Heaven (5&4) and Robert Berg (1up), things got a bit wobbly as a squared match to Shahid Bhatti and two close losses followed. However strong returns from Kamal Haider (5&4) and Peter Adams (5&3) along with a squared match to Zak Baig helped deliver the points.

A tough mission next Sunday for our team though, as they meet Sandy Creek who topped Div 3 North.

The winner meets either Seacliff or Playford Lakes in the final.

Robert Berg was our best placed in the final Player of the Year tally for the division.

Datails of all matches including division ladders and Player of the Year standings are available on our Public Course Pennants results page.

Next week, we all head up the Northern Expressway to Nuriootpa and the rolling expanses of Barossa Valley GC, an 18 hole, 6026 metre, par 72 course, which will again host the preliminary finals in all three Divisions.

Good luck to all.
