Public Course Pennants - Round 4
Two North Adelaide sides were on the road this week, as Divisions 2 and 3 trekked down the freeway to the old Marion Park, now known as Seacliff. Division 1 held the fort at home hosting Sandy Creek.
Division 1
A halved round at home to second-placed Sandy Creek made the chance of a finals berth a little more distant for North Adelaide.
Wins to Se Young Jung (3&2), Atila Koca (1up) and Yungbok Kim (3&2) had them in contention all the way to end, but those wins were offset by as many losses. Squared matches to Joe Scriva and Chantha Kong could not tip the balance in the home side’s favour. The draw now means the last two games of the minor round are ‘must win’ assignments for our team.
Division 2
Top of the ladder when they started and still top of the ladder when they finished,
North Adelaide racked up its 4th win from four matches with a handy 5-3 result at Seacliff.
Wins to Damwon Kim (5&4), John O’Connor (1up) and Mi Park (5&4) in the first two groups laid the foundation, while Luis Madriz (3&2) and Luc De Guia (1 up) made sure their Friday practice rounds at Seacliff paid off, by securing the win.
With 12 points from the 12 on offer and 55 holes won, these Red Shirts are indeed a formidable outfit.
Division 3
A top-of-the-table clash to open the second half of the minor round, and despite a close 4.5 to 3.5 loss at Seacliff, North Adelaide remains well in the hunt for a finals spot.
Every North Adelaide player had to give at least 4 strokes to their opponents under the handicap matchplay provisions, which made the first two results all the more extraordinary.
Playing at 8 and 7 respectively as the first pair out, Brett Heaven (2&1) and Darryl Treasure (1up) both recorded close and tenacious wins… with Brett giving 9 strokes to his opponent and Darryl offering up 11 strokes.
Four close losses in the middle groups put the win beyond reach, but a healthy 5&3 win to Kamal Haider and a squared match for Zak Baig ensured our team percentages remain superior to Seacliff’s despite trailing them by two points on the ladder.
Next week, all three sides travel to Regency Park.
Good luck to all...
