2023 Women's Club Championships

Stroke event for overall Women's club championship & all grades championships played as matchplay rounds starting with the best four qualifiers from each grade for women.

Women’s A-grade

Alice Cho def Se Young Jung… by a lot.

In the year since she became NAGC’s youngest champion, Alice Cho has improved beyond measure.

Se Young was on the receiving end, but in all truth she was up against a force of nature.

Alice was well ahead at 18 having shot 2-over par 75, firing on all cylinders with the astute assistance of caddy and pennants teammate, Atila Koca.

Se Young never stopped trying, and eagled the par 5 third hole playing as 21. Trouble was, Alice eagled it as well. It was all over at the next, 16&14.

Se Young plays off 9 and Alice off 1… but the difference today was simply beyond those numbers.

Amazingly, Alice was playing through an unusual distraction.

Her smartwatch was constantly vibrating as her father texted updates to her mother in Korea.

The news, apparently, was all good.

Women’s B

Brideeta Carmody def Fiona Chan 7&5.

A battle of experience against form… with experience the winner.

With husband, Andrew, hauling the bag… Brideeta took control at the fourth hole and never let go, turning 6up through 18. Three squared holes from 19 to 22 ended Fiona’s hopes of a comeback with Brideeta sealing the deal with a bogey at the 4th/22nd.

Said Andrew after the match: "We know who the better golfer is in our house now!"

Women’s C

Susan Lewis def Maureen Pyke 2up.

A fight to the finish between two experienced stagers in Maureen Pyke and Susan Lewis in the only 18-hole final of the day.

There was little between them until the last three holes, hereafter known as ‘The Killing Fields’, until Susan drew away and sealed the championship at 18, grabbing the final hole.
