NAGC 80th Anniversary

20/2/84

Graeme,

I gave some thought to the anniversary celebrations we were talking about last Saturday. The following ideas would help to make the day and could be put into effect without too much trouble.

  1. The NAGC was opened by the wife of the Deputy Governor Lady Way on 8th July 1905 (in 1985 that will be a Monday). Lady Way drove the first ball and was presented with the 'driver' with a suitable inscription attached. This driver is said to be in the possession of the Adelaide City Council.

Perhaps the Lady Mayoress or Lady Mayor could do the same on our special day using the same club? (This would be a good gimmick for the news media, especially television).

  2. The venue for any dinner or function to launch the history book would have to be held at the Country Club pining room at the Links. This is part of the history and has developed along with the Links over the years. If we have it anywhere else we are in effect saying that we do not have the facilities of other clubs.

  3. Invite past members - a 'Back To North Adelaide'.

  4. Bestow some Life Memberships on this historic day.

  5. Decorate the Venue with Club Colours, balloons and signs which could be arranged by the Associates.

  6. Associates to make an 80th Anniversary Cake with candles. Some of their oldest members to light the candles and cut the cake.

  7. A special golf competition on the Saturday or Foursomes on the Sunday followed by a barbecue.

  8. Souvenir glasses and/or copies of the book presented to stalwarts of the Club and presented by the Club Captain.
